Regeneration
SNU has been commissioned by several NDC and predecessor schemes to mount systematic evaluations of their impacts.
SNU has tested the effectiveness of Regeneration Scheme interventions on
- local employment
- crime
- community safety and
- environmental improvement
SNU's approach will be to
- test the quality and validity of available performance data
- compare actual performance with output and outcome targets
- test for extraneous influences which might have added to or impeded the achievement of targets
- mount questionnaire, focus group and semi structured interviews with key stakeholders and participants
Community Safety
SNU has been at the forefront of Community Safety initiatives for thirty years. SNU's approach encompasses:
- victimisation surveys using face-to-face and self report questionnaires
- crime mapping and crime analysis
- awareness of both physical security and social diversionary approaches to preventing crime and community safety problems
- understanding of the value and the limitations of concierge services, CCTV schemes etc.
SNU developed these techniques to address community safety problems on housing estates. SNU has subsequently worked to analyse community safety data and to propose community safety strategies for
- residential areas
- town centres
- industrial estates
- across entire local authority areas
