Devevloping Recycling schemes on estates
SNU's focus on disadvantaged and neglected areas is reflected in our waste management consultancy. Much of our work has been to develop and to evaluate recycling initiatives in so called 'hard-to-reach' areas including:
-
blocks of flats
- high density housing estates
- low income areas
- other neighbourhoods where design and demography challenge the ready installation of recycling services
SNU is a consultant under the WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) scheme of support for local authorities.
Recycling in Schools
SNU also develops and delivers the WRAP funded Schools' Recycling Schemes Training Programme aimed at helping council recycling officers and others to develop and improve recycling schemes. Schools are estimated to generate about 1% of all municipal waste in the UK much of it readily recyclable.
Other environmental work
SNU has undertaken other environmental work including:
-
evaluating the environmental performance of regeneration schemes
-
examining the future use of public parks
-
assessing land use options for open spaces and landscaped areas on housing estates
