Current Projects and Clients Winter 2011-2012
Projects with Tenant Management Organisations
SNU is a Lead Adviser under the Tenant Services Authority's Tenant Empowerment Programme (TEP).
Current and recently completed tenant management work includes:
Customs House and Canning Town Residents, Newham (2010 to date)
SNU has been appointed Lead Adviser to this residents' group seeking to manage 1,000 dwellings in an area of Newham in urgent need of regeneration and more effective local management.
PACCA TMO, Lambeth (2009 to date)
SNU is working at PACCA Tenant Management Organisation in Lambeth to consult residents on neighbouring estates about whether they might wish to join with PACCA. SNU is also helping PACCA to develop its environment policy including allotments for food growing and bulky waste recycling.
Arden TMO, Hackney (2009-2011)
SNU has completed its interim management assignment at Arden Estate TMO which included a review of staff terms and conditions, updating risk assessments and health and safety policies, preparing annual budgets, examining the feasibility of developing new services, procuring a bulky waste reuse and recycling service, preparing plans for a food growing project and the supervision of a tenant ballot confirming the continuation of the TMO.
Suffolk TMO, Hackney (2009-2011)
SNU is completing its assignment to amend Suffolk TMO's Management Agreement with Hackney Council.
SARAG, Ealing (2007 to date)
SNU is Lead Adviser to South Acton Residents Advisory Group (SARAG) which is developing a tenant management organisation on the 2,000 dwelling South Acton Estate in Ealing. SNU has also undertaken community safety and environmental initiatives for SARAG.
Friday Hill TMO, Waltham Forest (2006 to date)
SNU is supporting Friday Hill TMO, with whom it has worked since 1996, in the development of a Tenant Led Stock Transfer. This process would see Friday Hill TMO raise the finance to purchase the housing stock and vest in a newly formed locally accountable housing association. The new association will remain committed to principles of resident involvement and stewardship but will have greater independence and flexibility to invest in the housing stock and in local community development. SNU is providing financial modeling, negotiating and tenant consultation support.
Environment Projects
WRAP Schools' Recycling Schemes (2007 to date)
SNU is responsible for developing, updating, delivering and marking delegate course assignments for the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) Schools' Recycling Schemes Training Course. The course, comprising preparatory work, attendance at a two day residential training venue and a post course written assignment, provides support for council recycling officers in improving the performance of recycling schemes in schools. The residential component of the thirteenth course took place in London in February 2011. For more information contact www.wrap.org.uk
Cohousing
SNU is interested in supporting those who wish to live in cohousing schemes. In co housing, members choose to live more communally, acquiring or building dwellings which remain private but which facilitate communal activity. This might include shared gardens, allotments, white goods, communal activities such as meals, and shared care for those with disabilities or health problems.
